Mark Harris is the president and CEO of the Illinois Science & Technology Coalition (ISTC), a member-driven, nonprofit organization that measures, connects and enriches the Illinois innovation economy. ISTC makes powerful links between the state’s universities, industry, startups, and high schools to strengthen Illinois’ economy and talent pipeline through data collection, policy advocacy, and programs. Harris also leads the affiliated Illinois Science & Technology Institute, which focuses on Science, Technology, Education and Mathematics (STEM) education by connecting companies with classrooms to better prepare the next generation of problem-solvers and create a deeper STEM talent pipeline in Illinois.
Harris has more than 15 years of experience working in government, economic development, and higher education. This includes serving as deputy chief of staff for the state of Illinois, working as associate director for the Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and serving in senior positions at the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. He holds a B.S. from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and an M.A. from the University of Chicago.
