David N. Allen began his leadership of Tech Launch Arizona in September 2012. He has over 30 years of experience in technology-related research, instruction and practice. Before coming to the University of Arizona, Allen served as the associate vice president (AVP) for Technology Transfer at the University of Colorado from February 2002 to August 2012. Prior to CU, he was an AVP at Ohio State (Columbus), Ohio University (Athens) and a professor at Penn State University (University Park).
Since September 2012, TLA has received over 800 invention disclosures, filed close to 1,000 U.S. patent applications, executed over 100 exclusive licenses and launched 40 startups. Under his leadership, the organization has built a strong and trusted brand, and he and the TLA team have consistently met or exceeded their established metrics goals each year.
Allen earned his Ph.D. from Indiana University, Bloomington in political science, with a specialization in political economy, in 1980. His Ph.D. chairperson, the late Elinor Ostrom, was a co-recipient of the 2010 Nobel Prize for Economics.
